This rod was purpose built for sea-run cutthroat fishing. This is admittedly a niche fishery, but this rod will work great anywhere. I wanted to build a 6wt fly rod capable of saltwater use, which is hard to find. I also wanted the toughness of a throw around boat streamer rod. The blank is a North Fork Composites by Gary Loomis LMX FAF 906-4. This model combines HM/IM graphite for high modulus performance and toughness. The tip has been shorted 1/2 inch to allow for a large size tip top for no clogs when stripping in slop or ice. The butt has been extended 2 inches for fighting leverage. I used REC titanium recoil guides for saltwater capability and toughness.
The rod was painted black and then coated in epoxy rod finish for durability. The Winn grip provides excellent grip and cleanup in the toughest conditions. Coastal cutthroat and river streamer fishing is associated with the Fall so I picked orange and gold colors for a thread wrap pattern. It looks amazing!
The rod blank and guides are Made in the USA and of course it is manufactured in the USA.
I would classify the rod as medium-fast; it casts small streamers with ease and big streamers with a more open casting style. You don't want a cannon when casting to spooky coastal trout. Use it as a streamer rod for rivers, ultra-light saltwater, bass fishing, or an all around durable boat rod. Make sure you fish with friends as you will want to show this rod off!
